The designers behind Moments of Play

The Moments of Play collection was created by the design duo Steffensen & Würtz, consisting of Thomas Steffensen and Pia Würtz. Both are industrial designers educated at Aalborg University and have worked as independent designers since 2010.

Curiosity, honesty and openness are central to their design approach, where form and function are explored and challenged. These principles are reflected throughout the Moments of Play garden games.

The purpose of the collection is to present attractive garden games made with a focus on quality and thoughtful design. The beautifully stained wood gives the range its own distinctive style, while the simple shapes make the games suitable for a wide variety of outdoor settings. The collection combines familiar games with a consistent design language that highlights natural materials and practical use.

Steffensen & Würtz are known for creating products where usability and appearance complement each other. In the Moments of Play collection, this approach can be seen in the carefully considered proportions, the tactile wooden surfaces and the recognisable forms that make each game easy to identify and enjoyable to use. The result is a collection that focuses on shared activities outdoors while maintaining a consistent visual expression.

Why choose Moments of Play garden games?

If you enjoy playing games outdoors but prefer designs that also look appealing, Moments of Play combines appearance and play in the same products. The games are designed to be enjoyable to use while standing out through their unique expression.

During development, great emphasis was placed on quality so the games can be used repeatedly over a long period with normal use.

Many products are made from FSC®-certified rubberwood (FSC-C166612). Choosing FSC®-certified products supports responsible forestry.

Rubberwood is a fast-growing wood that originates from the Amazon region and is now also cultivated in several tropical areas. It was once used only as fuel but is now also used for furniture and interior products.

The shade and grain of the wood vary from one game piece to another, giving every game a natural appearance. These natural variations are part of the character of the material and mean that no two sets look exactly alike. The smooth finish and solid construction make the pieces comfortable to handle during play, while the wooden material gives the collection a timeless look that suits gardens, terraces and parks.

Many outdoor games are enjoyed across generations, making them suitable for relaxed afternoons, social gatherings and time spent outside. Choosing between the different Moments of Play games depends on the type of activity you enjoy, the number of players and the available space.

Which outdoor games are available?

The Moments of Play collection includes several well-known garden games:

Kubb, Croquet, Tic-tac-toe, Pétanque, Ring toss and Ladder golf.

Different games suit different preferences, making it easier to compare the collection and choose the one you would most like to play outdoors with family or friends when the weather allows.

Kubb is based on accuracy and teamwork, while croquet focuses on careful positioning and controlled shots. Tic-tac-toe offers a straightforward game that is quick to learn, making it suitable for many age groups. Pétanque is centred on precision and strategy as players aim to throw their balls as close as possible to the target ball. Ring toss encourages coordination, while ladder golf combines aiming skills with a simple scoring system that is easy to follow.

Because the games differ in pace and style, the collection provides options for both shorter and longer play sessions. Some games are well suited to larger groups, while others can easily be enjoyed by two players. Exploring the different choices helps you find the game that matches your preferred way to spend time outdoors.

Which garden game is the most fun?

There is no single answer, as favourite games vary from person to person.

Kubb is a popular choice for larger groups, where two teams compete to knock over each other's wooden blocks before finally toppling the king using throwing batons.

Ladder golf is another popular option. The aim is to score points by throwing bolas connected by a cord so they wrap around the rungs of the ladder target.

Some people prefer games that involve strategy and teamwork, while others enjoy activities that focus on accuracy or friendly competition. The setting, the number of players and the available time can all influence which game feels most enjoyable on a particular day.

Comparing the different games in this category makes it easier to decide which style of play appeals most to you.
